What happened
The Royal Malaysian Customs (JKDM) Penang has busted a syndicate smuggling firecrackers and fireworks without permits. The raid was carried out by the Operations Unit, state Enforcement Division, at a warehouse near the Nagasari Industrial Area, Perai on 11 and 12 March.
Upon inspection, they found seven containers inside the warehouse — containing 1,332 cartons of firecrackers and fireworks of various brands.

A man in his 60s was detained to assist with the investigation. The seized goods are believed to have been stored for sale during the Aidilfitri festive season.
Why is it illegal?
